Canon has announced it will release a firmware update (Version 2.0.3) for the EOS 5D Mark II DSLR that will add 24 and 25fps recording to the EOS MOVIE video functions, plus a range of other video shooting enhancements. It’s really not recommended to use original files from your DSLR in Apple Final Cut Pro. You will notice some performance problems if you try to do so.

The best way to convert your files is to use MPEG Streamclip – a free tool from Squared 5.

After starting it, press -> File -> Export to QuickTime – and in the following screenshot you’ll see my settings:

You should save them on your computer as a preset. So you will never forget them…

Canon has released a Plugin for Apple Final Cut Pro that makes importing in ProRes very easy!
It works with Canon EOS 7D, 5D Mark II and 1D Mark IV.

S you don’t need MPEG Streamclip anymore for that task.
